so, as of 12:01am the Levenson’s could start taking offers for Mike Lowell…what do you think is going to happen? here’s my take…

why not stay mike? is it really the money? must it always come down to that? i guess when you make millions of dollars a year, you get used of it, and you need more to sustain your lifestyle. Living beyond your means is not limited to the middle class. So, I guess I understand if you want more money Mike, but just think about it — Boston has been the place where you have flourished. You were thrown in as a side dish when Josh Beckett came to Boston, and you have turned into another main course, right next to Beckett. In a way, I don’t blame you for holding out to see what other offers might come your way, and maybe in the end we will see what a class act you are, when you turn down a ridiculous sum of money offered by the Yankees, to stay in Boston. In my twisted mind, I totally see you laughing in ol’ steinbrenner’s face…but I am pretty sure that’s just wishful thinking. As much as I don’t like the Yankees, as a professional baseball player you have to see them for what they are, a ball club with a lot of history, a lot of championships, and a die hard fan base. then again, you could look at the red sox and see the same thing Mikey. So why not stay with the home team? Show the Yankees what you’re made of: tried and true red sox blood. Think about this, last season at home you hit .373 with 14 homers and 73 RBIs at Fenway, as opposed to .276 with 7 homers and 47 RBIs away. I’d say you like to hit at Fenway Park…And the Fenway faithful would like to see you keep putting up those numbers in a Red Sox uniform.

So I will end with this Mr. Lowell, as a fan, not only of yours, but of the Red Sox organization in general, I do believe that it is the best choice, not only personally, but professionally, for you to stay in Beantown. We love you man.

“It always has made sense to Lowell that he should stay in Boston, where he likes the players and management and where he’s adored by the fans. At some point, that might just override business.” — Nick Cafardo
