Josh Beckett has been brilliant lately…Yesterday was (hopefully) a fluke. And Beckett was angry with his performance yesterday…Homerun and all…
“It’s a shame,” said Beckett. “Your team scores you six runs and you can’t hold them to less then that. Pretty horrible.”
…If the Red Sox had won the game, Beckett would have been all too happy to break down the mechanics of his swing. But in defeat, he looked like he swallowed some sour milk when asked about the blast.
“Why would I want to talk about that? All it did was help us lose the game,” Beckett said. “I’d like to talk about the other things I did to help us lose the game.”
Although, I do like what Tito had to say…
“Beckett hits one out and we’re right back in it,” said Francona. “Regardless of how that inning before went, we’re OK. It just didn’t work out very well the rest of the day. The last two hours weren’t as good as the first two.”
i have a special place in my heart for beckett\’s wickedly dry sense of humor and on the heels of his suspension, he does not disappoint:
Here he is talking about Mike Scioscia\’s thoughts that he should have shown more remorse after throwing \”at\” Abreu:
“I don’t really feel like I did anything. It’s unfortunate,” Beckett said. “I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do. Am I supposed to go give him a hug? I wasn’t really in a hugging mood right then. I don’t really know what they wanted me to do.
They made their own judgment on it. I had two umpires tell me that I handled it great. One of them publicly said that. The other one told me twice, once when I was coming off the mound and once right afterwards.”
seriously, a hug would have been awesome. Next time Josh, next time.

ahhhh…even though it snowed 22 inches of that hellish white stuff on sunday here in maine…my heart is all a twitter with the sounds of bats and balls; cleats on the dirt and gloves getting broken in. I am very very excited to see my boys again. like really excited. especially beckett. I feel like this is going to be a great season. Let’s keep our fingers crossed. So which games are you going to? Anyone know yet? I am going to Baltimore for the Orioles and I am going to Fenway at least once that I know of. I am trying to squeeze someone for Opening Day tickets…to see Josh pitch! Amazingness. We’ll see how that works out for me, huh?

This just in: Derek Lowe put Boston on the top of his list.
I have two reactions. First is joy. Elation if you will. Pure ecstasy. The second is oh god, here we go again. If I remember correctly the reason we let the big fish get away in the first place was due to the extreme amounts of partying, carrying on and other chaos he created, albeit outside of the clubhouse. Then he goes to LA and self destructs in his personal life and has his best pitching season in 6 years. I say, Derek Lowe, the price is right, COME ON DOWN!!! I’m all for it Theo, incase you were asking for my input. He isn’t bad to look at, he still has that fire in his eyes and I think a 1-2-3 punch of Beckett, Lester, Lowe and the added bonus of the NEW Dice-K would be PHENOMENAL! Varitek is probably having a wet dream over all of this right now.
I just don’t know how my serious baseball side feels about this. I think she feels like this: As I said, this was Lowe’s best season in 6 years. He had a 3.24 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP over 211 innings this season. He was fired up after Torre took him out of his Game 5 outing after 5 innings. I see the old fire coming back to D.Lo’s eyes. So what if he is 35? These guys are pushing themselves way past what used to be considered retirement age. Let’s sign him up for 4 or 6 years. After all, we’ve got Wake, and in my eyes he is pretty well past his prime, what harm could Lowe do?
Once again Theo, my vote is to bring him back.

i cried. there, i said it. i was driving home from the Fitch’s and i shed a few tears. i am not ashamed that i cried, i am just sad that it came down to that. pedie made me so happy with that homerun. for a guy who has struggled in the post season this year, he started it off the best way he knows how and i just wish we would have been able to keep that going. kotsay was a little frustrated with himself last night (which I can’t say as I blame him) breaking a bat over his knee…what a man. I think even Varitek was a little upset with himself last night and his continuing struggles at bat. i really thought that homerun on Saturday would lift him up where he needed to be to get it done, but evidently i was wrong. dead wrong. the rally in the 8th looked promising, if only maddon would have brought in BALL FOUR Balfour. Price came out of NO WHERE! Good for him. And I would like to give kuddos to Dustin Pedroia for the appropriate way he acted after the game, giving the Rays their props. I don’t think I could have been that classy. I am going to miss baseball. I have this issue every fall. I don’t know what to do with my free time. Maybe I will start kickboxing again…take my aggression out that way. maybe I will take up hunting? i mean, that’s what all the players do in their off time. I remember after the marlins won the world series someone interviewed beckett and asked him what happens now and he said something like “well i mean, its cool and all, but i am happy i get to go hunting tomorrow.” last off season jon lester’s girlfriend shot her first deer. ahhh bonding over bullets and dead animals. nothing solidifies a relationship like that. it would only be better if he proposed by sticking the diamond ring in a pile of deer guts and making the poor girl find it. ha!
so my annual poll, what will happen this off season to keep things interesting? i don’t have manny to pick on anymore, although i will be interested to see what happens with him this off season. what will happen to Tek? Do we sign him again? Or do we say goodbye to our fearless leader? We have already signed Oki to a deal…so we don’t have to fret about him. What’s going to happen with Lowell? I sure hope he makes a quick recovery (though my little sister had the same surgery a year or so ago and she still isn’t 100%)…And is Beckett going to be okay? Ortiz and his wrist…Ahh the list goes on and on…
Let me know what you think…

i just finished watching the game. i had to write the blog now…i couldn’t sleep on it. i almost shed a tear. i know, they still have to play and WIN tomorrow night, but the fact that they came back from 3-1 to even up the series at 3-3 i am so proud of these guys. beckett wasn’t old school beckett, but he was still on. i am very happy with his performance. oki came in and got it done and masterson did his thing and my boy pap closed it up like a ziploc bag. big papi came through and VARITEK!!!! FINALLY! I felt like a proud mother when he hit that homerun. I haven’t given up on him all season and there it was, GONE!
tomorrow is going to be amazing.
for love of the game.
um, last night’s game was, awesome. ha. i will let it go. for now. and i am pissed that beckett got skipped today…i understand the reasoning, he will pitch game one on wednesday, but i still wanted to see him on the mound today. go dice-k.

i have a couple of friends that are in the military and one of them has passed along a saying they use quiet frequently in his company, “SUDO”. Suck it Up and Drive On. I feel like the Sox need to have that mentality right now. Yeah, two hard loses in a row…last night was a miserable outing, but they gotta keep going, got to keep driving. Ten games left, we aren’t out of it yet…SUDO ya’ll. We have had these brilliant flashes of greatness in the past week or so…Beckett was AMAZING the other night, David Ortiz was on fire last night…Dustin has been great lately, Kotsay and Bay and Lowrie are fantastic…Let’s make the end of the season one to remember…GO SOX!
for love of the game.
So I read the “Red Sox Insider” Blog everyday….sometimes it has good insight into the sox organization, sometimes it has information, sometimes it has witty banter…today it had a listing of the songs the players use for their entrance/at bats. I thought the songs were hilarious choices for the most part. Dustin Pedroia uses “F*ck with Dre Day” by Dr. Dre…HAHAHA. Beckett uses “Rockstar” by Nickelback…a little cockiness I think…but I am okay with that! Anyway, I just thought it was a cool post…
