so i just figured out last night that kevin millar was signed as a non-roster invitee to a minor league contract with the BLUE JAYS?! i am so sad/disappointed…he’s great. i have really missed having him in boston and sometimes i wish theo was a little nostalgic for times gone by and would hook millar up with a one year deal in boston…and just as i was getting pysched to see him when i went to baltimore…grrr.

ahhhh…even though it snowed 22 inches of that hellish white stuff on sunday here in maine…my heart is all a twitter with the sounds of bats and balls; cleats on the dirt and gloves getting broken in. I am very very excited to see my boys again. like really excited. especially beckett. I feel like this is going to be a great season. Let’s keep our fingers crossed. So which games are you going to? Anyone know yet? I am going to Baltimore for the Orioles and I am going to Fenway at least once that I know of. I am trying to squeeze someone for Opening Day tickets…to see Josh pitch! Amazingness. We’ll see how that works out for me, huh?

So Papelbon is with us for another year. Will it last? I have heard Papelbon say that he will always go where the money is…will the money always be in Boston?

ok, ok, i’m sorry. i haven’t been around lately. i know, i am a horrible person. but alas, i have returned! and there really isn’t that much to talk about. ok — we have penny, baldelli, bard, saito, smoltz (!)…a few others. but we have missed out on the big names…what’s going on with Theo and Mr. Henry? Are things okay in the Fens? And what’s going with Varitek…I really need something to happen there. I don’t think I could deal without him this season — I don’t feel comfortable with anyone else catching right now…I need some time to get used to another guy. It’s like a break up — break up’s shouldn’t be fast, they should be slow and steady so you can get used to single life again and not just get thrown back into it. Everyone needs a grieving period and part of me thinks it would be easier to grieve if you know the end is near…
Doesn’t look like we are going to sign D. Lowe either. I am kind of sad about that, but I understand the reasoning. Although, he is very consistent, stable and a work horse on the field he can be unstable and down right crazy off the field. I have said it before, most of the time I don’t think a players personal life should come into effect here, but in some cases it can be a red flag to the way they play…And with Lowe, you might never know what you are buying…

so, not baseball related, but I had to say Congrats to Walter and Stephanie on the birth of their first child, Carter Marshall. He was born at 1:45am (Hawaii — so it was 6:45am EST)…He was a whopping 7lbs 1oz and 18 inches long. What a peanut!! I don’t have a picture yet, but as soon as the proud daddy sends one my way I will post it! So, first on the agenda is to buy the young man his first Red Sox Shirt!!! I’m probably going to go with the newest “It’s 7:05, do you know where your Papi is?” hahaha!

so, i am thinking Kellie Pedroia is due for a little shopping! Seriously, Pedie was making like $400,000 last year. to you and me that’s a lot of money, but to live like a baller, that’s chump change. and honestly, i love the way his deal is set up. he is getting 1.5MM next year…not too ridiculous. and he was just named the MVP, he could have walked in there and said, “5-10 mil a year or I’m out…” But good ole Dustin knows how to keep a good thing going and that’s (hopefully) what he plans to do! I for one am happy to have Dustin’s antics around for 6 more years. I will be happy to hear more of his one liners…”98 comin’ in, 102 going out!” … gotta love Pedie!

So Congratulations to Dustin ( and Kellie) Pedroia! We’re happy to have you in Boston for the next 6 years! And beyond, hopefully!

for love of the game.

and that’s just what he’ll do…

I am concerned. Very, very concerned about the status of Jason Varitek’s relationship with the Boston Red Sox. I can’t help it. I try to emit this chill vibe, but on the inside, I am FREAKING out. My office mates are telling to throw in the towel, I might as well write a goodbye to Tek letter…I just can’t do it…yet. I just read Schill’s blog, and he has a heartfelt message about Tek, and what a great person he is and why that qualifies him for a new contract from the Sox. I agree that he should get a new contract, but I don’t neccessarily agree that he is an amazing person. But, I won’t get into that here…it’s not my place to comment on someone’s personal life…but what I will say is that, I do think the events in Mr. Varitek’s personal life contributed to his struggles at the plate this year. He has always been good at zoning everything out when he is crouched behind the plate, but I don’t think he has been able to zone everything out when he is at bat this season. I don’t think you can replace him behind the plate right now. I think the pitcher’s are too attached to him…they need a transition period and I don’t think that now is a good time for that. I truly feel that the catcher is the most important aspect of a pitcher’s ability. You can have great command, awesome velocity, a pluethera of pitches, but if you don’t have an amazing catcher who knows how to call a game and is dedicated to his job you are, in essence, screwed.

Once again, Theo, I am pleading with you, call Jason talk to him without BORASSBoras and work out something that works for Jason and the Red Sox. And of course, it will work out beautifully for me if Jason stays…

Next on my agenda…Pedroia is going to need more money soon. A gold glove; the silver slugger; hopefully the MVP…I love this guy. We need to lock him up for a good long time. I am pretty sure if we don’t Red Sox Nation will revolt.

And I heard that Beckett has finally done it: a charity hunting tournament!!! Bowling wasn’t redneck enough? Don’t get me wrong, I love bowling like every good Mainer does, I also don’t have a problem with hunting, but seriously, a CHARITY HUNTING TOURNEY?!?!?!?
